Accumulation design

Express accumulation as controlled buffer behaviour

A buffer should absorb defined short interruptions without damaging packs or creating an uncontrolled restart surge.

State whether products can touch, how much back pressure they tolerate, how long they may wait and which station sends blocked or starved status. Use product count or usable buffer time under named conditions rather than table diameter alone. For unstable, open, soft or freshly labelled packs, controlled lanes or low-pressure handling may be preferable to mass accumulation.

The conveyor and accumulation selection guide includes a transfer survey and queue checklist. The line integration guide covers how the buffer interacts with machine speeds and faults.
