What should be defined before blister-pack machinery is selected?

Direct answer: Define the product, pocket geometry and orientation, forming web, lidding material, sealant system, print registration, feeding method, required seal and pack inspection, batch and code data, changeover and cleaning. Tooling and process conditions must be confirmed against the actual materials and finished-pack test method rather than a generic blister size.

Why must forming and lidding materials be assessed together?

The two materials, coatings or sealant surfaces and the forming/sealing process create the final pack. Obtain material-supplier data and use production-equivalent rolls in trials. Machine compatibility does not establish barrier, product-contact or end-market suitability.

How should products be fed into pockets?

State product dimensions, tolerances, fragility, surface, orientation and acceptable missing/double conditions. The feeding method may be manual, semi-automatic or automatic depending on the product and required controls.

What should be inspected?
